The Kenyan Coast has arguably some of the best safari and holiday destinations along the entire stretch of the East African Coast.Boasting of some of the finest beaches in the world, Lamu, Malindi and Mombasa are no doubt very popular among international tourists.

There is more to Mombasa than just beach luxury. The town is equally ideal for water sports, sport-fishing, and as a starting point for your Kenya safari. Mombasa, Kenya's second largest city, is situated on the Indian ocean coast, about 480km from Nairobi, the capital.

The coastal city of Mombasa has more to offer than pristine sandy beaches. This includes sport fishing, snorkellling , day-time dhow cruises and romantically themed sailing dinners with live music. In addition, many historical and cultural remnants dating several centuries back are found in this city. Key among these is the Fort Jesus which was built in 1593 by the Portuguese as a mark their territory.

Malindi, situated 150km from the city of Mombasa, is also worth visiting as it boasts many attractions and a rich cultural heritage. Among the most popular attractions here include the Arabuko Sokoke Forest, Hells Kitchen, and Malindi Marine National Park & Indian Ocean. Located about 36 Kilometers north West of Malindi, Hells Kitchen is a spectacular canyon that resulted from iron mining and erosion, while Malindi Marine Park is an ideal destination for snorkeling and scuba diving with dolphins and whale sharks.

Malindi boasts several historical attractions that include Gede Ruins, Vasco Da Gama's Pillar, Watamu Village and the Portuguese Chapel. The town can be reached by road from Mombasa or by air by way of domestic flights to Malindi Airport.

For the person interested in learning about the culture and History of the Swahili people, Lamu is no doubt the place to visit. This archipelago that is located 265 km North of Mombasa comprises of six large islands and quite a big number of small ones and despite it being remotely located, Lamu has quite a huge number of tourist attractions and activities.

If you are interested in learning more about the history and culture of the Swahili, then Lamu is the place you must visit. Comprising of six main islands and several smaller ones, the Lamu archipelago is home to many attractions and fun travel activities. Lamu is situated 265 Km north of Mombasa.

Given its proximity to the equator, the Kenyan coast is an ideal all year-round beach destination as a result of its tropical climate. For those planning to travel to Kenya, it is important to remember that US passport holders require a visa to enter the country which they can get either at the given airport or at the border entry point to Kenya.
